Volatile Organic Compounds (known as VOC)

Volatile Organic Compounds (known as VOC)

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are chemicals, contained in many everyday products, cigarette smoke, some paints and building materials, which are dispersed in the air and can provoke irritation and allergies. That is why the legislation on these matters, in all of Europe*, sets a limit on the presence of these harmful substances in household paints.

The presence of VOCs, such as formaldehyde, benzene and alcohols, therefore affects air quality, with consequences also on the external environment and repercussions on the ozone layer.
Although VOC emission in general is higher at the beginning of product application, and then decreases rapidly (the estimate is about a week for paints and adhesives, and up to six months for other chemical compounds), the formaldehyde content does not decrease, indeed: formaldehyde is released constantly even for several years. In addition, formaldehyde is classified by the WHO as a carcinogen, so we wanted to completely eliminate it from our products, certifying an absolute zero presence. With Zeropercento we also minimized the presence of VOC in our water-based paints: the values of 0.41% - 0.49% detectable in the formula represent a decrease of more than 99.98% compared to the limit value permissible by law for this category of products. It is an extraordinary result, desired, sought and obtained by our laboratories to produce products that protect the environment and the health of our customers. Unfortunately, the total zeroing of VOCs is not yet an achievable result, it would undermine the quality, reliability and expected functionality of the products themselves. But being close to 0 with the VOCs and reaching the absolute 0 with formaldehyde are proof that the choices made for the production of Zeropercento have allowed us to create a wall painting that respects people and the environment, without impacting the performance of the product, which is functional, effective, durable, safe and easy to apply. *Directive 2004/42/EC – Italian Legislative Decree no.161 of 27 March 2006 on: Limitation of VOCs emissions due to the use of organic solvents in certain paints and paints (2006)
